Template:RiskLadder

From RiskiPedia

Description

This template provides a simple, in-line risk comparison for a given probability.

It calls Module:RiskLadder to: 1. Find a "risk equivalent" from Module:RiskLadder/Data. 2. Compare the input risk to the equivalent. 3. Output a single-line comparison, e.g., "roughly the same as your annual risk of dying in a car crash (about 1 in 8,300)."

This is intended for use in tooltips (via `Extension:SimpleTippy`) or as a small parenthetical note.

Usage

{{RiskLadder|PROBABILITY|SEED}}

Parameters

  • `{{{1}}}` or `|prob=` (required): The fractional probability (e.g., `0.000125` or `0.000125`).
  • `{{{2}}}` or `|seed=` (optional): A number. Use a different seed if you have multiple `RiskLadder` calls on the same page and want them to show different (but stable) comparisons.

Examples

Wikitext Result
{{RiskLadder|0.000125}} (1-in-8,000) roughly the same as your weekly risk of visiting the ER from accidental poisoning (about 1 in 8,320).
{{RiskLadder|0.000001}} (1-in-1,000,000) roughly the same as your monthly risk of dying by drowing (about 1 in 1,000,000).
{{RiskLadder|0.00004}} (1-in-25,000, seed 1) less than your lifetime risk of dying by accidentally cutting yourself (about 1 in 22,700).
{{RiskLadder|0.00004|2}} (1-in-25,000, seed 2) less than your lifetime risk of dying by accidentally cutting yourself (about 1 in 22,700).
